Mortified

Remember our recent Valentine's? Well, I found out today that my daughter was called into the Principle's office because of them. He wanted to know details. Where did we get them? Why did we give them? Were there matches in the boxes?

Of course, I feel absolutely dreadful about it. I didn't think anything about it because it was designed by a previous Martha Stewart employee (art director for Martha Stewart Kids, in fact). It was a Valentine's hit on her blog. It was featured on Brides.com. I never thought that it would be wrong to make these. Call me naive.

Okay, so, we will have to get tiny boxes elsewhere in the future. But what REALLY made me upset was that they didn't call me. They brought in my 8 year old and drilled her, but didn't call me??? WHAT THE CRAP?

They are out of the office now, but you can bet I'll be talking to someone about that tomorrow.

I am really mortified that a parent went nuts over this and called the principle. And yet, looking at it now I can understand their concern. I just don't want my daughter attacked for something that was a mistake and oversight on my part. They should have called me first.

I am upset for you and giggling at the same time. Just a little. I don't think anyone here would have thought it was a big deal. Last year Gabe came home with a candle as a gift. From the teacher. I was like "no one here thought a candle for a 2nd grader might be a bad gift?" but they didn't. That's how they do it in the Philippines, MamSir.

Understand the parent's concern about WHAT? Seriously, there's nothing to be bothered by here. Some parents are just out looking for a reason to be offended so they can call the principal. The idea was adorable. There were no matches in the box, just candies for crying outloud! eesh. I am ticked that you weren't there to defend Briana as well. It just doesn't sit right with me. I'm glad you intend to give them an earful about it. Love you! Let's hang out first week in March, can you?

Any parent that would be weirded out by this valentine gift is a weirdo to me. It was totally innocent. Duh, parents. There are much bigger things to worry about!

I'm sure the child of this parent is a big nerd :) Ok I exaggerate but come on?!

I would NEVER have thought twice about this either. That's ridiculous! I bet that same parent called the school and complained about the Red Dye #7 in the Valentine's candy. (It causes cancer, you know! *rolls eyes). I'm sorry the school handled it so badly too. What an aggravating situation!

sorry I don't get it either. An empty match box covered with pretty paper. Give me a break!

You've got to be kidding. I can't even believe that would be an issue. I would completely be ticked off and be giving the school a piece of my mind. I thought they were adorable and would never have thought twice about it. In fact, I probably would have snagged it from my child and put it my stash of fun to do projects!

oh my goodness! I sent these same valentines with my daughter to her preschool! A friend just told me about your experience- and I'm so sorry for your daughter! I think I'm torn just like you- but the Principal should have called!!!!
