Fairy Tales Gone Wrong

Brianna is learning about Fairy Tales in school and had to write her own. I read it when she brought it home from school yesterday and although I recognized the need for her to write slower and neater, it was quite creative.

I began to read about a Princess that could not stop laughing. She laughed so much in fact that the sun laughed too:) Since the genie was missing he couldn't make her stop and the King said, "Oh brother! What should we do?"

And then I read some more...

Then when she was 16 the Princess was shot and the King was too and that was the end of the Princess and the King and no one could rule their country.

WHAT? Oh. My. Gosh. I'm completely mortified. We don't even have cable, so I'm not sure where THAT came from. And yet, I just had to laugh (and send her teacher a quick apology email to let her know that our family is quite functional and loving).

Oh brother! What should I do?

Oh, I LOVE it!! I'm sorry, I know it's probably morbid and dysfunctional, but I'm so excited to read stuff like that by Charlotte and have discussions about "what happened next?" Of course, maybe she'll disappoint me and write boring "happily ever after" stories. ;)

Speaking of, there's an awesome quote in the front of Neil Gaiman's book "Coraline": "Fairy tales are more than true: not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten." (- G. K. Chesterson) I just love that.
