are little blogs dying?

Interesting question to pose on a blog, right?  I just think that compared to 1-2 years ago, my blog mojo has gone out the window and I don't know if it's just me.  A lot of blogs I usually read aren't blogging anymore--and then I see some really big-time ones go even more big time because it has really gone into a social circuit.  I just wonder because I think to BE a current and trendy blog you have to post daily with cool stuff/lifestyle or themes with a blog purpose and I'm just not like that--I'm way too random.  I think knowing that un-motivates me since I go against the grain of mainstream. I'm happy with my blog for what it is and even what it lacks-don't get me wrong. I am just really curious as to what people are wanting to read/write because I know my own tastes have changed and I think the purpose in blogging in general has, too.

Am I the only one who feels this way?

I am with you on that. I have to remind myself why I am blogging. More than anything it is our family journal. I love sharing with others, but am not willing to kill myself trying to keep up with those who blog every.single.day. Sometimes there is more time to blog and at times, there is way too much to be enjoying to be sitting up at night to get the post done for the day. :} LOVE your blog, but I think sometimes it gets a bit much to be at it all the time. I am a random blogger, too and I think sometimes a blog is more special when it is a treat to look forward to other than always knowing there is going to be something new on the blog in the morning. Kinda like having ice cream stocked in the freezer at all times...as opposed to having it on special occasions! {although, we usually keep it in our freezer because of all the teens that are over here!!!! :} } Don't be discouraged.

Enjoy your weekend! xoxo

I think you hit the nail on the head. People have very limited time and they will go back to the blogs they love, but if you are in the so so catagory then you can fall behind. I never went into blogging to make money, so if I have only 1 comment or 15 I am fine. Though I have to admit it is always nice to see someone cares.

I blog for many reasons...mostly because I like to write, but also as a journal for my family.

I also love the community that has developed around my blogging...and I am really fond of my readers and commenters. In fact, I have formed what I think will be lasting friendships with many of them.

All I know is that it's fun! I don't want to overthink it. I just want to keep enjoying myself...

I'm way too random too. I can't keep to a theme. I tried that with a "writing" blog and I felt like no one cared. And even now, whenever I write about my writing, I get very little enthusiasm.

Why do I blog? No idea.

You're definitely not the only one who feels this way. I think blogging needs a purpose greater than a lot of comments or you probably won't be in it for long. It's been interesting to watch blogging evolve over the years. I started my family blog 5 years ago and have left it behind and kind of let it merge some into Bee, and I'm ok with that.

Your blog is wonderful, Carrie. Your children will treasure it, as will your grandchildren. Your thoughts touch those who read them. I have to guess that it makes you happy to post your thoughts, pictures, ideas, etc. - and they are wonderful. Do you use social media also? I know some friends who have blogs that have grown because of fb and twitter... but other than that I don't have any ideas. But I hope you don't stop writing!! and creating!! your pics are amazing. what a trip! and what a great bff.

most of my friends post things on fb - as I'm sure yours do also. But, rarely is there any "content" - you know? You put such meaningful things on your blog - fb is like watered-down communication, you know?

I'm a little blog.
I have no agenda or "purpose" other than using it to chronicle my family and to "download" thoughts in my head.
I'm ok with that.
There are only so many hours in a day.

I was just thinking the same thing. I have my blog roll on the side and I get so excited when a family member of friend updates. But the time ticks away and it goes to months and one of the them has a year as the last time for a post.

It makes me sad. I live so far away from everyone and it was always a connection I had with them, darn it.

But I have had a chance to read some of your blog posts and I love them. Keep it up. I think we have a lot in common.
