I have a super cool idea. So super cool that you will be ecstatic when you read about it. Like, so ecstatic that you will suddenly get your thinking cap on and kiss this screen thanking me for having this super cool idea.

Here's the super cool idea:
A "Showing the Love" competition.
I always GREATLY DISLIKED valentines day. I despised it more than any other day of the year, including the day I sprained my ankle. For instance, I was dating this guy and he tried to celebrate the day by buying me red roses and chocolate. I almost gagged. I told him I loathed those commercial items. He said he thought I was lying and wanted to call my bluff. I said thanks you are so sweet for being manipulative.
Then he did something very cute that I didn't gag about. He had me "kidnapped" (if you went to an LDS school, you know exactly what I mean) and then taken to a secluded spot with another couple and surprised me with a bonfire. It also included a sack of McDonald's fries, oreos and milk. Then he wrote me a song and played it on his guitar. Crazy cute. And ya, I married him.
Since then, Valentine's day hasn't been so bad. Mostly take-out with a good movie and dessert (we do have kid's bedtime you know). However, we also try to do some thoughtful things as well. One year I made him a jar full of "I love" statements. I read some the other day. They said things like, "I love that you wanted to beat up that guy who cut me off in traffic" and "I love that you hate listening to chick rock but you do it anyway." Really, I crack myself up sometimes.
So here's where the competition comes in...
Do something lovely this Valentine's Day. Be Creative. Inventive. Take a picture of what you did or are planning to do and then email me about your glorious creativity and/or BLOG it. Tell me your idea. How you will show someone that you care about them. It could be for a friend, lover, relative etc. I'll post the ideas you have and then we can ALL get inspiration on how we might be able to celebrate this lovely holiday.
The winner will receive 2 movie tickets from me for sharing the love.
But you'll have to buy your own popcorn. I don't love you THAT much.
The tickets will be sent to you in an envelope with a lipstick kiss on it. You can then hang that envelope on your wall as a shrine to me. But remember not to make it a super big shrine, because then you are worshipping false idols. And that is never good.
Are you with me?
Here's to the best loving idea EVER!
Deadline to submit is February 7th, 2010

That is AWESOME!!! This year we're doing a 14-day Countdown (like an advent calendar for Valentines' Day). Day 1: Make Love "Mailboxes" (each person will write an "I Love You" note each day -- or a thank you or an I noticed you or whatever). Day 2: Singing telegram Lunch. Day 3: Short lesson on charity. Day 4: Make a pop-up heart card for Daddy. Day 5: Make oreo "kisses" with love "tags" for some close friends. Day 6: Make Handprint Valentine cards for Grandmas and Grandpas. Day 7: Make Huckleberry Heart Pancakes. Day 8: Heart Attack friend/neighbor's doors. Day 9: Love Scripture Chase - see who can find the most scriptures with love in them without matching other people's (actually look up and bookmark them). Day 10: Make mini cherry pies to accompany the oreo kisses for friends. Day 11: Make picture books for the kids with things they LOVE in them. Day 12: Date night: Fondu and a chick flick. Day 13: Eternal Flame Temple Trip. Day 14: Nice dinner at home and read cards from mailbox. May sound like a lot of work, but I've been working on/planning it for WEEKS and am REALLY excited for it!!! I'll take pictures/blog about it later! I've just determined to make every day this year special and to maximize the "easy" ones - like holidays and birthdays and such.
I have no ideas, you couldn't buy me actual movie tickets anyway though. We have a TEN WEEK period into which is crammed both of our birthdays, Christmas, Valentines day, AND our anniversary. Oh, and the word verification I have to type in order to post this is "fackne"....
awwwww....i'm loving this!
{mostly cause i love reading other people's ideas...}
