I'm just not into it

I wanted to post today about something somber that is near and dear to my heart. And I simply don't have time to.

So!  Instead I leave you with the official best post of the week focusing on what just kinda bugs me.

Let's go!

1. Missoni for Target. What's the delio with the Target drama?  I heard there were claws and fangs out the moment every Target opened yesterday and I do.not.get.it.  It's not that pretty to me.  Plus, why would I want to fill up my entire cart with the same fabric/design?  Call me crazy, but I don't understand the hoolabaloo.  I didn't even know it was the release date and went into a Target yesterday. It was crazy and the place looked slaughtered and I just bought my tape and scissors and left.  I'm rebellious like that, you see.

2. The KEEP CALM quotes/prints.  Sorry.  I'm just not going to keep calm at all when someone is telling me to.  Just makes me want to get all spastic and rip open a bag of chips or something.

3. Skinny jeans.  I loathe them.  And it's not because I just can't wear them on my body type--they are just not flattering to any shape or size.  Brianna has a bunch and them because that is just what is available and she just complains that they not comfy anyway. Give me a boot cut, baby.

4. Over-the-top kid parties.  Now, I know you are completely shocked to hear this from me, but I have seen a lot of crazy stuff on pinterest lately and I am reminded of that one movie where there was that one line about that one guy not wanting to go to this one kid's 1st birthday party because it had an entire circus and the kid wouldn't even remember it.  So, I think I might get some haters for this thought--but I'm gonna lay it on you.  And I can say this because ahem...I love throwing parties.

When "I" throw an over-the-top girlfriend bash like I have in the past--it is because I want to give myself and my friends a beautiful break from the mundane.  I want to give fun and beauty and celebrate the ordinary and so that is why I put so much work and details into my events.  I throw a party that I would want to get invited to to get "away from it all" for a few hours.

However, when "I" throw an over-the-top KID birthday party, I do it to show off. I want other mom's to think I am super creative and to be known as that mom who throws awesome birthday parties. There are definitely exceptions to that rule...and my heart is certainly not in it just for that...but if you seriously want the hardcore truth--there it is. (disclosure...my feelings are certainly not to say that it is the case for everyone and I think there are SO many people who do it ever so clever and wonderfully without that intent at all.) But what's with all the competition, ladies? Do you really think your 2 year old cares whether or not the juice boxes are labeled with their motif that is also on the cracker jack boxes and invites?  I'm tell'n ya...dig deeper.

5. Friends who let friends drink Diet Coke.  WHY?  If you are going to have an awful carbonated beverage that has zero nutritional value, why do you need the nasty aspartame which makes it even worse for you on the pretense that the calories are lower?  Take my challenge:  Drink 1 Mexican Coke a month (as in...made in Mexico using cane sugar) from a glass bottle that has been chilled in the freezer and then drink water the rest of the time.  I promise your sweet sacrifice will be worth it.

PHEW.  Glad to get that all off my chest. Talk about blog therapy! Can we still be friends?

Yah, I think we are still friends. IT could be that I sort of agree with you on every one of those points. Well, the over the top kids parties one I am just jealous that I am not that creative or detail oriented and so my kids will never have one like that. But they aren't going to remember or care anyway, right? The party for them is games, food, and gifts. So, I am just jealous. Sigh.

The over-the-top birthday parties for kids seem more for the parents.

JMHO.

Missoni--I am with you. I don't get it either.
Keep calm--I enjoy because it reminds me to keep calm. I am ALWAYS stressed out. So I enjoy, but I get your point.
Skinny jeans--AMEN sister! I just have never understood that one.
Kid parties--I don't mind so much. I just don't have the energy for it :) and I loved your chocolate party. It still warms my heart the effort you put in for a girls night. It still inspires me :)
Diet Coke--I am a junkie and I know it is a horrible terrible habit. I hope we can still be friends :)

I agree on everything but the skinny jeans and the Keep Calm. I bought the skinnies to celebrate pre-preggo weight. They're not terrible even though my bootay sticks out.

I like the Keep Calm and Carry a Wand one. And plus, it's a British saying and I am a complete freak over anything British.

But we can still be friends. :)

I agree with you on every point except the diet coke;however I just found a coke that uses Stevie, so if it taste good then I am switching. I know diet cokes are poison, but it is the only way can get through my day.

Everything you wrote, I concur. Enough said.

I'm going to have to disagree with you on the Diet Coke...

I have become so completely and utterly sleep deprived that I have honestly considered drinking coffee. ( I have never in my life had coffee, so that's saying something).

So, a few times a week when I really need something to get me through the day, coke seems to work. And I'm not up all night, like I imagine I would be if I were drinking coffee. And I'm not breaking the Word of Wisdom.

Win, win!

I am a coke purist. Regular coke only, and definitely Mexican coke in a glass bottle if it's an available option.

I read a study once that said that women who drink diet sodas, on average, gain six more pounds a year than women who drink regular sodas. I swear I didn't make that up. The study claimed that when you drink diet soda, you tend to eat more. Who knew? I'm biased though. Even if it officially made people skinnier for drinking it, I'd still drink regular coke. I can't deal with the aftertaste of diet.

And skinny jeans? Don't get me started. I can't wear them, and don't mourn the fact either.

I'm with you on almost all your points. But I especially agree on the kids parties. After "showing off" for years, the last party I did almost did me in. I finally gave up on impressing others and decided to do experiences for my kids. And that is soooo much more rewarding. There's more family time and less presents we don't need. This year my daughter's birthday was the same day her favorite singer was at the fair. It was perfect. She got one gift from her brother and 20th row seats. I asked her if that was okay and she said, "Okay? It was awesome!" Plus I spent less money and definitely less time.

The Diet Coke though, keeps my migraines mostly at bay. Actually works better than the prescription meds.

you are my kind a gal. I've even given up the diet coke and actually would drink the mexican variety and LOVE it only once a month!

Haha. THIS is why I read your blog! Loved this post. I agree with almost everything... except for the diet coke blasphemy!! I also love skinny jeans, but rarely wear them myself. 100% agree about the kid birthday parties!

I 100% agree with every single thing you said. Yes.

I agree you with almost all of those points. Definetly tired of all those "keep calm" signs. I do think skinny jeans, however, look good on really skinny people... well to be honest, women with "perfect bodies" can kind of pull off anything they desire. Not fair. I do think people go way too far on their kids' bday parties. However, I'm a party-planning-diva myself, so it's totally for my reputation, I will admit. But unless someone paid me, I don't think its necessary to throw this outrageous party for a 1 year old, or even 2 or 3 year old. And if you do, you don't need to do it every time, cause hello--then when your daughter is 13, you will have to have a red carpet, with limos, the jonas brothers, a real roller coaster and so on. (which btw, I know of people who do this, and every year is bigger and bigger) OH YEAH--what is with that target stuff. some of it is a little ugly. Anyway--keep blogging, love your posts

I had no idea about the Target thing until I read this. Crazy! I agree with all of this except the skinny jeans. I love, love, love wearing them for so many reasons.

100% agree with all of this! Especially the skinny jeans - they are hideous! And to think they offer them in MATERNITY! Who in their right mind would wear them pregnant?!
